Amemeliokope Receives Improved Access to Potable Water Under SIGRA Initiative

Residents of Amemeliokope, one of the communities within the Agbledomi area of the Anloga District, have benefited from a new potable water extension project commissioned on 9th June 2026.

The project forms part of the Agbledomi Safe Water Access and Storage Initiative, supported under the Strengthening Investments in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) programme.

Through the initiative, water infrastructure is being extended to Amemeliokope, Alakope and Tsorgbakope to improve access to safe and reliable water and strengthen the communities’ ability to cope with climate-related challenges.

For the people of Amemeliokope, the project represents an important development that will bring water closer to households and reduce some of the difficulties associated with accessing potable water.

The Agbledomi area has experienced water challenges, including the effects of salinity and prolonged dry seasons, making the provision of reliable water infrastructure particularly important to residents.

The project is expected to improve household water access while contributing to better hygiene, sanitation and public health. It is estimated to directly benefit about 1,300 people, with the wider communities also benefiting from the improved water infrastructure.

The initiative demonstrates the importance of collaboration between the Anloga District Assembly and development partners in addressing basic infrastructure needs and improving the resilience and well-being of local communities.

Residents of Amemeliokope have been encouraged to protect the facility and ensure its proper use and maintenance so that it can continue to provide safe water to the community for generations to come.
