Alakope Benefits from SIGRA Safe Water Extension Project

Residents of Alakope, a community within the Agbledomi area of the Anloga District, have welcomed improved access to potable water following the commissioning of a water extension project on 9th June 2026.

The project forms part of the Agbledomi Safe Water Access and Storage Initiative under the Strengthening Investments in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) programme. The initiative seeks to improve access to safe and reliable water through piped-water extensions and community-managed water storage systems.

Alakope is one of three communities in the Agbledomi area benefiting from the intervention, alongside Amemeliokope and Tsorgbakope.

For residents of Alakope, the project is expected to ease the challenges associated with accessing potable water and reduce the time and effort spent travelling in search of water. Improved access is also expected to contribute to better sanitation, hygiene and public health within the community.

The intervention is particularly significant as communities in the Agbledomi area have experienced water challenges associated with factors including salinity and prolonged dry seasons.

The project is estimated to directly benefit about 1,300 people, with the wider beneficiary communities expected to benefit from improved water infrastructure.

The intervention reflects the collaboration between the Anloga District Assembly and its development partners to improve essential services and strengthen the resilience of communities to climate-related challenges.

Residents of Alakope have been encouraged to take ownership of the facility, use it responsibly and support its proper maintenance to ensure that the project continues to serve the community for years to come.
