The Disaster Management and Prevention Department is responsible and assists in planning and implementation of programmes to prevent and/or mitigate disaster in the District within the framework of national policies. They also facilitate the organization of public disaster education campaign programmes to create and sustain awareness of hazards of disaster and emphasize the role of the individual in the prevention of disaster.They are also responsible in assisting and facilitating education and training of volunteers;
(i) to fight fires including bush fires, or
(ii) take measures to manage the after effects of natural disasters.
They also prepare and review district disaster prevention and management plans to prevent or control disasters arising from floods, bush fires, and human settlement fires
