In an event held on November 10th , 2021 in the Anloga District Assembly Hall, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Seth Yormewu with support from the District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Sylvester Kojo Deku presented startup capital to 23 PWDs from two branches of the disability association in the Anloga District. The beneficiaries were presented with amount ranging from GH¢ 700.00 to GH¢ 900.00 as support for income generation. In all, a total of GH¢ 17,600.00 was presented to the beneficiaries.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Honorable Seth Yormewu who presided over the event advised beneficiaries to use the money given them for the purposes for which they requested for them. He emphasized the importance he attached to making sure that persons with disability in the district are given the necessary support to improve upon their living conditions and livelihoods.
Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the Anloga District and generally in Ghana face substantial barriers that impede their integration and participation in socio-economic activities and limit their access to services and opportunities on equal basis with others. Evidence of their challenges is seen mostly in households with disabled members who may often be vulnerable to poverty due to the extra cost of living with a disability. Also, evidence can be seen on our streets where many of them solicit alms as a way of surviving. In view of this, the Government of Ghana established the Disability Fund in 2005 to support the provision of services to improve the welfare of PWDs. Hence, the support for income generation given to the PWDs on Thursday, 16th September, 2021 is part of the core functions of the utilization of the DACF for PWDs.
