A Sensitization Workshop for Revenue collectors by the Budget unit on 13th August 2021

On August 12, 2021 The Felicitators of the workshop includes the Hon. District Chief Executive, the District Coordinating Director, the District Finance Officer, the District Budget analyst. Participant include the revenue collectors, representatives from all the Area Councils and other Heads of Departments of the Anloga District Assembly.

The DCE, Hon Seth Yormewu made it known that since the Anloga District Assembly parted from Keta Municipal, Internally Generated Funds (IGF) has being the main source of fund relied on for financing its expenditure. There is therefore the need to put in more effort in generating more revenue for the Assembly. The Assembly is doing its best in its works therefore more funds are needed to support more service delivery. The Assembly was rated 101 out of the 265 District in the country in 2020 performance assessment of MMDAS.

The assembly has constructed market sheds in the Anloga market and has also reshaped the waste disposal site at Salo with the internal generated fund (IGF). This year, more will be provided including rehabilitation of market sheds at Anyanui.

The Area Councils and Revenue Collectors should speak to the public about the benefits the Assembly gets from taxes/paid by the citizens. Some people understand the importance of paying their taxes including property rates hence, they come by themselves to pay at the Assembly. The revenue generated is used to provide infrastructure and other development projects in the district.

The DCE once again thanked the Area Council Executives, and Revenue Collectors for attending the workshop on a short notice and urged them to put up their best. He further said revenue generated from the Area Councils are not encouraging enough so he entreated the revenue collectors to take their work seriously without fear or favour.

The District Coordinating Director Mr. Emmanuel Dzakpasu also urged all the revenue collectors to put in more efforts since it’s the internal generated funds (IGF) that is used for developmental projects.

The District Budget Analyst , Mr. Albert Anamogsi then distributed the unassessed property bills among the Area councils and gave them time lines to finish distributions of the bills. He urged them to be professional in their work such that they will not bring the name of the assembly into disrepute. He also reiterated that, the revenue collectors should exercise patience and explain the purpose of property rates collections to rate payers. The workshop ended successfully.
