ON 1ST September 2020 Hon. Minister of Fisheries and Aqua Culture (MOFAD), Mrs. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye distributed over 300 Units of Outboard Motors to fishers in the Volta Region, including Anloga District. The first batch of 65 Units of Yamaha outboard motor with 40HP was allocated to Anloga District on the 28th July 2020. This formed part of the President’s Fishing Input Support Scheme to help fishing communities along the coast. The Outboard motors which had a market price of GH₵ 20,000 each were given to beneficiaries at GH₵ 10,000 representing about a 50% subsidy.
Anloga District received delivery of additional 30 Units of Yamaha outboard motor with 40HP totaling several 95 Units of outboard motors delivered by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aqua Culture (MOFAD) through the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) to Anloga District. Adding to the Outboard Motors were 15 Units of Chest Fridges, 100 pieces of Aluminium Basins and branded NAFTA cloth to the fisherfolk within the District.
This initiative is aimed at empowering them and help alleviate poverty among fisherfolks irrespective of their status and through this scheme Government has distributed this Fishing inputs to all fishing communities across the country as well as carrying out infrastructural development projects across fishing communities in Ghana to improve productivity in the fishing spectrum.
