ACTIVITY REPORT 2020:

TRAINING TITLE: TRAINING OF SCHOOL FEEDING CATERERS
ORGANIZERS: FOOD FOR ALL AFRICA, ANLOGA DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

INTRODUCTION:

Nutrition activities or interventions in Anloga district have not received much attention until the year 2020. Nutrition interventions in the district are targeted towards children 0-5 years, adolescents, pregnant women among others. The quest to improve the nutritional status of the populace made the district embraced the idea by food for all Africa to train additional caterers to be part of the Ghana School Feeding Program. The move is however aimed at enrolling more schools onto the Ghana school feeding program.

OBJECTIVES:

Assist in meeting the requirements of the public health Act, 2012 Act 851 which requires that food handlers demonstrate an appropriate level of competence in food hygiene and food safety
To inculcate the habit of good food handling practices and promote food safety and self- compliance in the school feeding program
To help trainees come out with recipes that provide one hot and nutritious meal per day for the school child

TRAINING METHODOLOGY:

Presentations
Group work
Food demonstration
Practical (cooking competition)

PARTICIPANTS:

A total of ten (12) participants comprising of ten (10) caterers selected from different communities and Two (2) teachers in the district took part in the one-day training.

TRAINIG COURSE CONTENT:

Introduction to basic food safety and hygiene
Food contamination/ food poisoning
Personal hygiene
Pest control management
Food storage
Water and sanitation
Meal preparation

Late arrival of participants:

The training was successful hence the unit looking forward for more schools to be enrolled on the feeding program to cut down on the burden of malnutrition among young children
